AP is a rigorous course that will require significant effort for your maximum success! The AP biology course is designed to prepare students for the AP biology exam in May and to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in future college biology classes. The material covered in AP biology is equivalent to a freshman year college biology course (more than a year in many cases!). College biology differs from a typical high school course with regards to the amount of material covered, the amount of reading that is necessary, the pace at which topics are presented, and the time and effort required by students. To be successful, students need to appreciate that this course will go quickly, studying will occur most evenings, and for the majority of students AP biology will be challenging. Tests will require students to recall facts directly from reading and/or lectures, but more often to apply the facts to new situations. Keep in mind that success is measured by growth and improvement, and not by a grade. Each of you will gain knowledge and skills, and possibly even earn college credit or advanced placement.
